Every Saturday I traipse round our co-op with a trolley, a list and a huffy teenager, in the hope of being able to purchase all the items on said list and not be left feeling deranged by the end of it. Today went pretty smoothly and it was surprisingly quiet for a Saturday in the summer holidays.
I always do a weekly menu and write my list from that. This helps to avoid walking round the shop aimlessly and avoids buying any unnecessary items. I don’t buy biscuits, cakes or puddings. If my hubby was to do the shopping this would be a different matter! I have a shopping list on my phone and add things we run out of during the week.
This Weeks Menu
Lunch – beans on toast with grated cheese/avacado on toast
Dinner – Chicken/veg fajitas and salad
Lunch – bacon/egg butties
Dinner – roast chicken/roasted cauliflower with roast potatoes, roasted veg, brocolli and carrots
Lunch – cheese on toast with veg sticks
Dinner – Thai green curry
Lunch – ham/cheese sandwich with veg sticks
Dinner – fish/egg, chips and peas
Lunch – pittas with veg sticks
Dinner – spanish omelette/macaroni cheese and salad
Lunch – peanut butter noodles
Dinner – couscous and roasted veg
Lunch – tuna melts
Dinner – pasta bolognese/veggie version with garlic pittas
(The lunches are for the children because they’re on school holidays and my husband and I are out working).
Teenagers are constantly eating so I make sure we have a ready supply of snacks available. They can choose from:
Crisps, apples, watermelon, kiwis, grapes, strawberries, blueberries, bananas, or Greek yoghurt and honey.
(Breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks)
Red onions x3
Dairy free butter
Milk 4pt x2
Chicken breast 400g x2
Breaded fish 2pk x2
Malt crunchies (shreddies)
Maple and pecan crisp
Tinned tomatoes x2
Basmati rice 1kg
Baked beans x2
Spaghetti hoops x2
Tinned coconut milk
Thai curry paste
Crunchy Peanut butter
This all cost £87.86 and will last us for the week. I try not to buy any extras if I can help it, (mainly to avoid going back into the shop!) although I am likely to pop in for a bottle of wine at some point!
